In Focus with Amber
Don’t let that sassy vibe fool you. Amber is as sweet and personable as they come. And damn - she can take a great picture. Her laugh alone will warm any room, and her effortless ability to connect makes it easy to get lost in conversation. We should know… Recorded as our longest running interview to date, Amanda, our Interviewer, and Amber had so much fun – we had to trim the conversation down. On one particularly stressful day at the office, our team sat down to listen to the audio in preparation for the blog. We will never forget the permanent smiles on our faces and the energy shift as we listened. For that, we thank you Amber, for being you. Without further ado, introducing the wonderful and talented Amber Jones.
TSS: Alright Ms. Amber, what did you eat for breakfast this morning?
A: I have to think… I had Starbucks. I had a little cold brew and a sausage and cheddar breakfast sandwich.
TSS: Do you get the cold foam on top of your cold brew?
A: The cold foam is literally the best thing Starbucks has ever created… So today was the first time I got cold foam on my cold brew. But the Matcha... you have to get it on the Iced Matcha – it will change your life.
TSS: Do you usually get the standard cream?
A: No, I usually get the Irish cream on the Matcha – top 5.
TSS: You live in Los Angeles, what is one thing people need to do when visiting?
A: I guess everyone says to go to Runyon Canyon. That is usually everyone’s first instinct.
TSS: Have you done the trail yourself? Is it worth it?
A: Yes, it is definitely worth it to see if you like the outdoorsy stuff.
TSS: What is the worst pickup line you have ever heard?
A: Do people use pickup lines on me? Hmmmm…
TSS: Are they just straight to the point?
A: Yeah (laughing). Or maybe it was a pickup line in their head, but in mine it wasn’t...
TSS: What’s on top of your burger?
A: I rarely eat hamburgers. I love beef and chicken but I’m not a big bread person. So honestly my perfect hamburger is a lettuce wrap hamburger with like bacon and cheese on it – I would smash it. Like In n Out’s lettuce wraps are crazy.
TSS: Do you get the chilis on the secret menu?
A: I get those too. Did you know you can get your burger cut in half? If you ask, they will – and it’s individually wrapped so you can bite right in.
TSS: Where’s the worst place or event that you had uncontrollable giggles?
A: I don’t know... Maybe like the principal’s office in elementary school?
TSS: You are hosting a late-night talk show. Who is your first guest? Dead or Alive.
A: Rihanna
TSS: You’re on a date. What is your absolute deal breaker?
A: I guess I wouldn’t want someone to get overly drunk to where I have to take care of them all night – that would be an absolute deal breaker.
TSS: What is a small act of kindness you were shown that you won’t forget?
A: Honestly, I have a friend, who is a hair stylist, and she flew in for a visit. I needed my hair done for a super last-minute shoot, and I was asking around for someone to do my hair because I didn’t want her to work on her vacation. She completely went and bought the supplies and did my hair. And it’s little things like that. She didn’t have to do it – she was on vacation. My hair was fire, and the client loved it. It was just a really nice thing for her to do.
TSS: What is your favorite memory of your best friend?
A: So, my best friend doesn’t live here in California. We actually haven’t lived in the same state since high school. So, I am thinking, I rarely get to see her, but we talk every single day. I would say our fondest memory would probably be prom. It was one of our last memories too of us being together. I see her like once or twice a year, but we mostly hang out and catch up. But prom was like a really dope situation where we really had fun. It was a good way to say ‘adios’ to Maryland.
TSS: What’s the worst and best part about adulting?
A: Hmmm. The worst part would be…. I’ve honestly been on my own since I was 18, and the worst part is knowing you have to handle everything on your own. The best part is knowing my success came from my own hard work, growing up and doing things on my own. Figuring it out and watching the struggle turn into rewards.
TSS: What is the best hangover cure?
A: So, I rarely get hungover, because I drink a ton of water. I think water is like life blood. But for me, smoothies are good. I love to have a smoothie and I crave sushi for some reason. I crave freshness. So I would love a smoothie and some sugar fish would like, do me perfect. I guess cause there are a lot of nutrients in sushi and fatty stuff and carbs that suck up everything. People crave greasy food, but I don’t. I really don’t. But Chipotle works too though..
TSS: You’re an athlete, what is your walk out song?
A: When I played basketball, Lil’ Wayne came out with his No Ceilings album, and every time I listen to that album, it takes me right back to basketball life. I played that album before every single game.
TSS: What’s your cellphone wallpaper?
A: Space. I love outer space. If I could live in outer space I would.
TSS: You can only eat one meal for the rest of your life. What are you eating?
A: Salmon
TSS: What kind of salmon?
A: Just salmon, because I can grill it, fry it, eat it raw with sushi. So many things I can do with salmon.
TSS: So healthy…
A: Not always... I had fried Oreos the other day.
TSS: That sounds amazing. Where did you get those?
A: From The Carving Board, which I love. It’s a sandwich place – they have the best sandwiches, but they also have fried Oreos on the menu, and I was like – ok! And they were really good.
TSS: What is the craziest dare you have ever taken?
A: I don’t know… Do I not get dared? I guess I don’t get dared because I’m already down to do it. I will say one of the craziest things I’ve ever done was this obstacle course in Mexico, and it was a bunch of different things like zip lining and Tarzan swings, and BMX racing. Oh, and this wasn’t a dare, but I did swim with sharks before. I wasn’t supposed to – it was supposed to be dolphins. They just dropped you off in the middle of the ocean, and they tell you you’re swimming but ‘oh and sharks are here too’. So that was that. It was pretty scary.
TSS: Was this before or after you got in the water?
A: Already in the water. I thought it was going to be like a pool, like in a space, but it wasn’t like that at all. I will always remember that experience.
TSS: Do you have a favorite quote from a TV show, movie, or book?
A: I don’t know if it’s my favorite quote, but I did quote this recently to somebody, and I can’t remember who said it, but: “If you’re the richest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.” It just tells me to always keep elevating. And if you hit a point and you look around and there is nobody to look up to, then you need to go to another room. Because are you constantly elevating? Are you constantly getting better? I live by that.
TSS: What is a random fact about you?
A: I always say this, but I’m a brown belt in Karate.
TSS: How do the colors go? I know white is the first belt.
A: You have white, you have yellow, green, and then third degree brown belt, second degree brown belt, first degree brown belt, and that’s what I am before you go to black belt. Maybe there is one color I am missing…
TSS: Wow. When did you achieve that?
A: Long time ago. Maybe when I was like 11 or 12. I was really big into sports and activities. Like summer camp and all that. In and out of different sports.
TSS: Do you still have some of your moves.
A: So, I just recently watched Cobra Kai
TSS: Yes! It is so good!
A: So good! Why is it so good!?
TSS: I don’t know, but my husband got me in to it and now I’m obsessed.
A: I was recently on set and there was this wall of numb chucks, and I am like walking past the wall like staring at the numb chucks - like I want to take these off and do a move so bad. I had to really control myself, because in my head I would have done some crazy move.
TSS: How do you practice sustainability?
A: I recycle as much as I can, and I try to carpool.
